Interview with the outstanding Chilean improvisers Benjamin Vergara and Eden Carrasco on Resonance FM104.4

Benjamin Vergara and Eden Carrasco.

The Chilean improvisers Benjamin Vergara (trumpet) and Eden Carrasco (saxophone) are two leading voices from Chile’s vibrant improvised music scene. They will talk about experimental music from another perspective with Javier Chandia, on Clear Spot, Resonance FM 104.4, on 7th September 2026 at 9 PM. It repeats on Thursday 10th September at 9AM. Vergara has collaborated with Fred Frith, Keefe Jackson and Jim Baker; Carrasco with Tetuzi Akiyama and Susana Santos Silva. They will play live at Cafe OTO, 8 September, 2026.

Benjamin Vergara has recorded and collaborated with international musicians from the US, Europe and the UK, including Fred Frith, Keefe Jackson, Jim Baker, Phil Sudderberg and Julian Kirshner. He is also the artistic director of Relincha, an international improvised and experimental music festival held in Valdivia, Chile. His musical inspirations include Don Cherry, Bill Dixon, Miles Davis, Lester Bowie, Tomasz Stańko, Wadada Leo Smith, Jaimie Branch and Chet Baker.

Eden Carrasco is a music teacher, improviser and experimental musician who has collaborated with artists including Tetuzi Akiyama, Susana Santos Silva, Christof Kurzmann, Burkhard Stangl, Michael Thieke, Birgit Ulher, Sara Zlanitnig and Leonel Kaplan.

I believe the interview would be a great opportunity to introduce Resonance FM’s listeners and Magik Circles’s readers to two important figures in Chile’s vibrant experimental and improvised music scene, particularly in connection with their upcoming performance at Cafe OTO.
